99mTc-TRODAT SPECT/CT is a specialised nuclear medicine brain imaging procedure used to detect changes in dopamine transporters in the brain. This advanced imaging technique helps identify Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders at an early stage.

How 99mTc-TRODAT SPECT/CT Imaging Works
- A small amount of radioactive tracer is injected into a vein in the arm.
- The tracer travels through the bloodstream and selectively binds to dopamine transporters (DAT) in the brain.
Optimal tracer uptake: Approximately 4 hours
- SPECT/CT imaging is then performed to visualise dopamine transporter activity within the striatum.
Total scanning time: Approximately 1 hour
- The CT scan provides anatomical correlation and attenuation correction.
